Mistaken Payments

If you believe that you have paid someone by mistake through your internet banking or paid them the wrong amount you should contact us immediately. We will contact the receiving institution with a request for return of the funds. The return of funds is dependent upon sufficient funds being still available in that account and the receiving institution being satisfied that the payment was made by mistake, hence the need for speed in this process. This does not apply to BPAY® payments made by you.

For BPAY, if you paid too little, simply make another payment using the same reference number to cover the difference.  
Contact Cairns Bank immediately if you have: 

  • Paid too much
  • Used the wrong Biller Code or Customer Reference Number (CRN)
  • Accidentally paid the same bill twice.

We can lodge an investigation in an endeavour to recover your payment (fees and charges may apply). Full details are set out in our Terms & Conditions booklet.

If we are notified by another institution that a mistaken payment has been made to your account and we are satisfied that this is true we are required to take the funds from your account and return them to that institution.
