Michael Wenzel
Michael Wenzel
CA CIA RCA Bcom (Chair)

Michael joined the Board in 2014 and was appointed as Chair in February 2019. Michael has a wealth of experience across various industries. In 2011 he started Michael Wenzel, a Cairns based firm providing contract Chief Financial Officer and related advisory services. Michael worked in the audit and advisory divisions of KPMG for over 13 years. He is currently the Chief Financial Officer at local company QBiotics Limited and is also involved in the management and operation of the FNQ Cerebral Palsy Support Group, serving as treasurer since its incorporation in 2007.

Benjamin Tooth
Deputy Chair

Ben is a Chartered Accountant and is Chief Executive Officer of Ramsay Health's Cairns Private Hospital, Cairns Day Surgery and The Cairns Clinic.  He has a number of years experience in both finance and accounting roles in Cairns, including 3 years as Chief Financial Officer at ECU Australia Ltd and 8 years at KPMG. In 2007, Ben gained international experience when he worked in London on government financial schemes with the UK National Audit Office.

Ben is a strong advocate for Cairns and its continued growth as a thriving, regional economy. Locally, he’s a great supporter of community organisations and a Board member of Northern Queensland Primary Healthcare Network. When he’s not doing all of that he spends his spare time with his wife and two children.

Margaret Maunsell
CA, CPA, AICD (Secretary)

Margaret joined the Board in August 2009.  She grew up in Cairns and obtained her Bachelor of Business degree from our local university, James Cook. After commencing her career in the mining industry, Margaret was Operations Manager of two major tourism companies in Cairns before joining local accounting firm BDO (Nth Qld) where she has been a partner since 1993.

Margaret was also previously a board member and chair of the audit committee at the Cairns Port Authority. As a practising accountant, she is well across the current business conditions in a number of industries around Cairns.  Margaret is the Chair of the Remuneration Committee.

Nadine Edwards

Nadine joined the Board in June 2018. Born in Cairns, Nadine holds degrees in both Law and Accountancy from QUT, Brisbane, and has practiced as a solicitor with national law firms in Brisbane and Melbourne. In March 2004, Nadine joined the family business LJ Hooker, Edge Hill and has built and maintained a reputation as a trusted name in real estate in Cairns. Nadine is a life member of the exclusive, LJ Hooker Captain's Club Multi Million Dollar Chapter which recognises the top performers within the entire LJ Hooker network.

Simon Coolican

Simon has many years experience in Retail, Business and Rural Banking with one of the four major Australian Banks, and has worked across most of Queensland throughout his career. He and his family have lived in Cairns for over 20 years and he currently privately owns and operates a small business in the finance sector.  He is also a Tribunal Member for the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT) and provides mediation services for the Land Court of Qld. Simon also volunteers as Director at the Cairns Catholic Education Foundation Limited.

George Brooks

George brings experience drawn from Commercial, Residential and Wealth Management leadership roles with a number of major banks at regional and state level. 
Cairns born and educated, George spent many years with major banks before choosing to set up his own business in the finance industry as well as working in the real estate sector. 

Rowan Wilson

Rowan is a litigator and dispute resolution lawyer at Miller Harris, with expertise across a wide range of industry areas including construction, property, insurance, banking and finance, and insolvency. She has a Masters of Commercial Law at Melbourne University, and a pragmatic, problem-solving and forward-thinking approach to her work. After several years at a large firm in Melbourne, Rowan enjoys the personal interactions that come with a smaller firm and a smaller city. Her experience in commercial law and connection to the Cairns community are valuable contributions to the Board.
